Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPwD), Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment has conceptualized the “Accessible India Campaign (Sugamya Bharat Abhiyan)” as a nation-wide flagship campaign for achieving universal accessibility that will enable persons with disabilities to gain access for equal opportunity and live independently and participate full in all aspects of life in an inclusive society.
The campaign targets at enhancing the accessibility of built environment, transport system and Information & Communication eco-System.
To reward conscientious persons engaging themselves with the Campaign and contributing to the Campaign, the Department has formulated a reward system. For every accessibility request made by a person, he would be awarded a star point. Persons receiving highest number of stars would find their names and photographs on the home page of Accessible India portal. All persons contributing to the portal would receive certificate from the Department and top 100 contributors would also be rewarded in the annual award ceremony of the Department.
