Samajik Adhikarita Shivir and scheme of assistance to disabled Persons for Purchase/Fittings of Aids/Appliances (ADIP) camp witnessed three Guinness World Records at Sai Garba Maidan of Navsari, Gujarat on September 17, 2016. Hon'ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi graced the occasion as Chief Guest The three world records were the part of ADIP camp conducted by the Department of Empowerment of Persons with disabilities [Divyangjan], Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India and organised by Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation of India (ALIMCO).
ALIMCO is a Public Sector Undertaking of the Government of India. Established in 1972 and it manufactures artificial limbs and rehabilitation aids for Persons with Disabilities.
The first record “highest number of oil lamps lit simultaneously at single location” was set on the eve (16th September, 2016) of the Mega camp. An incredible 989 Divyangs (Person with Disabilities) came together to set an all-new record- almost doubling the minimum of 500 participants they needed in order to achieve the title. The challenge was for each person to light the lamp exactly at the same time after a given signal within 30 seconds.
A new Guinness World Record has been set in Navsari. This was done within 30 seconds by 989 people who lit 989 lamps. It is first record of its kind, “said Rishi Nath, adjudicator, Guinness World Records who was present at the venue to officiate the process.
Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi took no time to appreciate the effort and quote tweeted immediately “very inspiring” through his official Twitter channel.
The second record ‘Biggest Wheelchair Logo’ was also broken on 17th September, 2016 in Navsari, Gujarat. The 1,000 participants in wheelchairs depicted a message saying ‘Happy Birthday PM’ in tri-colour. It bettered the previous record of 346 participants that was achieved by Hope Inc. in Moorhead, Minnesota, USA.
The third world record ‘Most people fitted with Hearing Aid in 8 hours – Single location (600 Hearing Aid) was also set on the same day. Free assistive devices kits were handed out to thousands of Divyangs throughout the weekend, in addition to the hearing aids distributed during the record attempt.
“The new Guinness World of Record filed for largest wheel chair logo image was attempted; the current record beat 346, that was set in 2010 in USA. On Sep 17th, the record was made by 1000 participants, which means this is a new world record title for ALIMCO and Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities,” said Alan James Pixsley, adjudicator, Guinness World Records, who was presented at the venue.
It was a challenge as people to be fitted with hearing aid must have hearing problem and they should provide relevant evidence reports from their doctors.
Expressing his pleasure PM Modi tweeted “Navsari has set three records has made a mark for itself on the map of the world. Congratulations,” on the micro-blogging website.
Wishing countrymen on three new world records Minister for Social Justice & Empowerment Shri Thawaarchand Gehlot tweeted “Congratulations! Nation has set a new Guinness World Record in Navsari, Gujarat.”
It is important to mention here, in the 159th Mega ADIP Camp, which is so far the biggest, 11330 Divyangjan beneficiaries were benefitted. The camp which is held under the ADIP Scheme of Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, is in force since 1981. This has been revised and further adopted from April, 01, 2014.

Apart from that, Secretary of Divyangjan Empowerment Department of GoI, Dr. Vinod Agrawal, Chief Secretary of Gujarat Dr. J N Singh, Joint Secretary Shree Awanish Kumar Awasthi, Officials of National Trust, various Corporations of the department, National Institutes and District Administration were also present for the event.`
